Another Sound on Anothersomething

I am very happy to announce the first edition of Another Sound, a recurring feature on Joachim Baan’s great blog Anothersomething. Joachim is a very inspiring person and on Anothersomething he shares his passion with the world. In his own words: “We don’t fall for just anything. We are attracted to the quality, aesthetic and sophistication of something. A unique, incomparable and extraordinary something.” And from now on Anothersomething has its own music and sound related section called Another Sound, written by me.

The first edition of Another Sound features Efterklang and their new album Magic Chairs. I love the way Efterklang changes their musical style without changing their way of showing their true passion for music. Please read the whole article here and let me know what you think: Another Sound on Anothersomething.

I agree with you to some degree; but what I really liked about Parades was the way they were able to get away with such interesting compositional structures. With Parades, it was enchanting from the start, took me some time to really "get" it, and then was amazing over and over again... With Magic Chairs, the songs seem to have a bland structure and are less rich harmonically. Also I think it's WAY too "clean" productionally. It's just unadventurous.
Live, the new songs seem to have way more impact on the audience than the Parades ones. But not for me, I am still surprised by Parades on each listen. Bored of Magic Chairs after 3 listens. Maybe it's just not for me.

It is, of course, a matter of personal taste, Mark. For me there was a great difference between the live Parades and the recorded Parades... I felt like they had a struggle to recreate the same energy in the studio. I haven't seen them perform since the release of Magic chairs, so I cannot say if this difference is still there!
